The Department of City Planning has completed 100 area-wide rezonings
covering one-fifth of the City and over 8,400 blocks. These rezonings
are a "smart growth" blueprint which will shape the city
for decades to come by channeling growth to transit-rich areas while
protecting the scale of low-density neighborhoods.

City Hall Library maintains a collection of approximately 250,000
agency reports and studies dating back to 1913. The Municipal Archives
preserves and makes available the historical records of New York
City municipal government, dating from the early 17th century to
the present. This also includes historic birth, death, and marriage
certificates.

Between 1939 and 1941, and again in the mid-1980s, the City photographed
every house and building in the five boroughs. Copies of these tax
